Check your vaccinations! (Not very snappy, I admit it) Rabies, parvo and distemper cases are on the increase! It is the time of year wildlife starts to get a bit bolder when interacting with pets and people… While it might be cute to feed your local wildlife it can lead to painful rabies treatment! Even in urban Dallas we have a resident neighborhood bobcat, frequent fox sightings, and assorted raccoon, skunks, rats and bears! (ok kidding about the bears!) Some viruses can be picked up by coming in contact with infected feces, some are airborne and others can be contracted by otherwise healthy looking pets or wildlife.

The best way to protect your family and pets is to vaccinate your pet! So check your pets records today and consult your veterinarian about what vaccinations are required by law in your area, what are strongly recommended and what may be a good idea…

Just this week The Farmers Branch Environmental Health Department has issued an alert after a rabid skunk bit a 10-year-old boy. That child is currently undergoing painful treatment for rabies. Check out WFAA’s story !
