FOSTER HOMES NEEDED … Can you help save a life?

It’s raining danes! Our inbox is full of requests from area kill shelters, owner surrenders and out of town shelters with danes in need. GDRNT relies completely on foster homes to care for our danes while they await their forever homes. By fostering you help GDRNT save a dane from a kill shelter and provides a second chance at a happy life!

Foster families are an important link in the rescue process! Aside from regular day-to-day care (feeding, grooming, exercise), the responsibilities of a foster home may include basic training (housetraining, walking on leash, sit, down); behavior modification (to correct problems such as jumping, mouthing, barking, destructive chewing, dashing through doors); socialization and temperament evaluation (to determine whether the dog is good with different types of people and other animals); medical care (dispensing medication, taking the dog to vet appointments), and of course plenty of playtime and snuggling.
GDR alters, vaccinates, microchips and proveds any necessary medical care required by your foster.
As a foster family you provide:
• Love, structure and discipline to help acclimate your foster to home life
• Provide housetraining, crate training (we provide the crate if needed), leash manners and indoor manners training
• Seek advice early and commit to work with your foster through any behavioral issues (human aggression being the exception)
• Give monthly heartworm protection which is provided by GDR
• Provide transportation for your foster dog to one of our APPROVED veterinary clinics (cost covered by GDR with prior approval and arrangements), and attend adoption events
• Update the board with any concerns, stories and progress so an appropriate match can be found. Provide pictures and info so your foster can find the perfect FURever home.

To foster complete the online Application and mark the FOSTER box. Foster applications do not need to submit the processing fee. Once we have your application someone will be in touch soon!
