GDRNT Adopted Dane Updates

If you adopted a Dane from GDRNT, let us know how it's going.

Riley

Hi All!

Was cleaning our computer hard drive and came across this photo our 12 year old daughter took of Riley --- isn't he handsome?! (minus the beady devil eyes)

Happy New Year!

Molly's on Twitter

Molly is awfully clever. She figured out how to get email and twitter accounts. I'm not sure how she'll use them yet, but will see what she does with her DaneMolly account.

On a more general note, she's doing really well. She still struggles with her bad leg, but the problem has stabilized. She's even started going on walks again. We can't go as far or as often as before the leg issue came to light, but she loves getting out and meeting the neighbors. There's another GDRNT adoptee a few blocks from us, and Molly gets very excited when we bump into her. :-)

Hazel May

I was just thinking about GDRNT this evening and thought I'd stop by and update on Miss Peaches, aka Hazel May, who was originally called Greta when we adopted her from GDRNT. She's doing just fine! She's an old lady now, probably around 9. She is the easiest dog ever, these senior danes are amazing. So sweet, and she asks for so little. She spends a lot of time on her bed, but comes around to eat, drink, go potty and get loved on. She still gets the occasional zoomies, especially when the weather changes. She recently saw the vet and got a clean bill of health.

Bruce is with Bruno at the Rainbow Bridge

Hi All,

I posted a response to my posting about Bruce's diagnosis of heart failure about his passing. I wanted to repost as a main post to make sure that those who knew him were aware that we lost him. Thank you to everyone who cared for him. He was a glorious addition to our home and has left a huge gap in our world. We loved him so much, and all of us are mourning him horribly.

Sincerely, Tricia, Michael, Alexa, and Luke (our only remaining baby)

PS: Thanks Don for pointing out that I should make this a main post to ensure the word gets out. Good idea!

Bree became an angel

I helped Bree cross the bridge and she went peacefully in her doggy bed in her home. She developed suddenly a very bad arthritis and could not stand on her legs anylonger. She promised she will watch after me and she will help me cross when my time comes. I am sure she will send another dog my way to keep me company. This hurts so much, but I know I owed that to her.

I want to thank all the people from GDRNT who rescued her, nurtured her to health, fostered her. And for setting us up together, we were the most perfect match. We will never be able to repay your kindness.

The La. Herd

Hi all,

Just a quick update..........all of our babies are doing well. Socrates has responded to the metacam amazingly well. He had gotten to the point where he was listless and not eating because he was hurting so much with his osteoarthritis and his hips. The metacam really did the trick.
He now can bounce around the yard like a spry 10 or 11 year old dane :)

Becasue he is doing well, it's my hope he can make 13 years.......if it's to be. As long as his quality of life is good. They do have a way of letting you know when enough is enough.

Our Beautiful Bruce Got a Bad Diagnosis

After losing Bruno, we wondered if we would ever find doggie love again. Alas, Bruce entered our home and our hearts. He has been the most wonderful addition to our herd and helped me tremendously when I lost my 16-yr old doxie this year and one month later had to suffer through the stroke my loving Weimie had at 10 years of age. Though my Weimie recently recovered, Bruce began to feel bad. For any of you who know him, he never misses a meal. So when he stopped eating for an entire day I took him to the vet, but he was bouncing around acting like a puppy instead of a senior.

Yay for Onyx!

Just a couple of updates on Onyx...

About a year ago we found out that our boy was heartworm positive... well today I got the call and he is officially heartworm NEGATIVE! Yay!!

We lost Preacher

It's taken me some time to even be able to post this. I have been in denial. But our sweet boy passed away on Thursday September 22nd. I am beyond heart broken. I can't even begin to articulate the pain... But I want to thank you. I owe you the happiest 12 years of my life. You trusted me with the greatest gift - my amazing boy. I don't know what I ever did to be worthy of being his mom but I will be forever grateful. The pain we are in not is tremendous, but the joy of having lived with him for 12 years, three months, and 16 days far out weighs the pain. So thank you.

Update on Dilan

We adopted Dilan just over a week ago. We decided to change his name to Jethro, and he is doing great! He and our female Dane are now best buds. She is teaching him all sorts of cool tricks, like barking at the neighbors, barking at people on the walking trail, hollowing out ALL of the stuffed toys and who to go to for breakfast at 4:30 or 5 AM. (That would be me.) He is such a sweet dog and has really found his place in our home. We are so happy he was matched with us! :) Thanks so much!
