Great Dane Rescue Frequently Asked Questions

Hello:
I just moved to Dallas from NC.
I am glad to see this site and all the wonderful people that are out there fostering, volunteering, donating, etc.
I am curious to know if there are any discussions of creating a Great Dane Shelter.
As one who was intimately involved in one, I understand the advantages and disadvantages of one.
Fostering is always preferred as the danes get the necessary love, attention and training that they need, but I assume there are many more danes and not enough foster homes.
Any thoughts are appreciated.

There is a pup in serious need in Wichita Falls. He seems to have a few serious medical issues. If I had the money to take him in and fix him up I would. I desperately hope someone can help him out, he is only 3 months old. EDITED PHONE NUMBER OUT FOR SAFETY

Hello everyone,
I'm not sure if any of you saw a post about a guy going out of the country for work for a year and a half and needing to find a home for his dog. I found a home for him and he told me to call him. I tried to call him yesterday when this was going on and never heard back. This afternoon, I texted him and the reply said "I don't who you are trying to reach, but I don't have a dog nor do I need a home for him". I checked and it was the number he gave me.

Hey Everyone,
I recently moved to Houston and am interested in volunteering with a local Great Dane rescue group. I heard a rumor that there were at least talks of forming a Houston chapter of GDRNT, and I wanted to know whether or not that was true and who I should contact for more info...
If it's not true, does anybody know of a good/reputable group to work with in this area?
Thanks!
Rachel

I have already fallen in love with Finnley! I know he is on medical hold, and am wondering if y'all work off a waiting list, or generally have Danes available for those approved for adoption? I understand that temperament match is most important when looking for a forever family for these guys, but darn if Finn isn't adorable! Also, just out of curiosity, are your rescues private surrenders for the most part, or do you rescue pure-breds from shelters? Thanks to all for your wonderful work with these amazing dogs, and I can't wait to join the GDRNT family!

Hello, I am wondering if you adopt out of state? I am from WI and we lost our eldest dane, Bailey at age 7. He was a rescue and am looking for a playmate for my other Dane (5), Odin. I also have a rat terrier and cats. We have a fenced in yard that is really big. I do have small kids age 3 and 5, but they have been brought up with Danes so they are used to getting bumped and knocked over. Anyways we are just starting the process and saw this rescue. I have been looking at our local rescue as well.
Thank you
Crystal

I was looking for this on the website, and it's probably listed somewhere but I can't seem to find it. What is the Tax ID for GDRNT for when we do our taxes and list any donations made?
If someone can point me in the right direction, or knows the answer off hand...

We are all volunteer. Nobody gets paid for their work with us. Donations are always welcome. Income tax receipts are available on request.
We are non-profit and recognized by the IRS as such.
We only work via donations and grants.
We only adopt to approved adopters.
All Danes have ALL of their medicals done before they are adopted.
(if not, you will be informed about it beforehand).
All of the Danes are in peoples homes for at least a couple of weeks, if not longer. We learn a lot about them this way and can place them with confidence.
All Danes are microchipped.
