Thinking about what to get my valentine for the big day, I realized that instead of buying unneeded candy, wine, sweaters, etc., a really special way to show your love is to support GDRNT's mission to save as many of our loving Dane souls as possible.
Please consider making a donation in the name of your loved one - you'll be making a difference in the life of a helpless and homeless Dane.
You might also post a similar suggestion on your Facebook page to share with your friends, even if it's not a donation to GDRNT, ask them to help a rescue group of their choice.
Today GDRNT took into our program SEVEN Danes! So since Friday our ranks have grown by NINE.... All pulled from kill shelters. There was not a hoarding or seizure.... Just nine Danes sitting on death row of shelters desperate to reduce ranks so none have to die. To say that it takes a village is an understatement. It takes an army. Today alone there were countless hours spent coordinating transports, foster homes and veterinary space. Hours and miles spent in personal vehicles to get these danes to the vet and the shuffling of households to get ready for another foster.

I'm actually looking into fostering and could use a crate. What are the best dane crates out there? The midwestern one is not folding, and I really need the folding crate, easy to use when needed, and just pop down for storage. What is the minimum height I'd need. Most things I've read said average dane size is 30"-35" and you want a crate to be at least 4" more than their back, so I'm thinking 39" high and up, but would 39" actually be a bit small? Anyone know some good ones that i can pick up cheap from amazon.com or even order online walmart?

Dog tags ring, are you listenin'?
In the lane, snow is glistenin'.
It's yellow, NOT white, I've been there tonight, Marking up my winter wonderland.
Smell that tree? That's my fragrance.
It's a sign for wandering vagrants;
"Avoid where I pee, it's MY pro-per-ty!
Marked up as my winter wonderland."
In the meadow dad will build a snowman,
Following the classical design.
Then I'll lift my leg and let it go, man, So all the world will know that it's Mine-mine-mine!
Anyone who has adopted knows their dane is an MVP..so tell us what makes your FURkid your MVP

There is a dane at the Rowlett shelter that is heartworm positive. I'd love to add him
to our family but I don't know the first thing about a dog being positive and it scares
me. I knew you guys would have answers so I hurried over here.
Hi, I am wondering if anyone has found a washable diaper they have used on their Danes? I was on Ebay and had ordered a custom made one only to find out it wouldn't be shipped, so I was offered a refund...UGH....Maggie definitely has a tee-tee problem. I have her on medicine, but that doesn't always work. And when I am at work and when we sleep at night, I need a washable diaper on her. Any help would be greately appreciated. I have been to various sights, but her waist measures at least 32". Thank you! Kristin

When we foster our puppies, we tend to only open our hearts about half way. I know, I’m not referring to everyone…. Certainly not you…. I’m talking about the other folks. We know going into the arrangement that it is only temporary so we try to insulate both ourselves and our fosters from becoming too attached. Well as we too often know, this never works out the way we think it should. Every foster we have ever had needed us so badly that we eventually give them 150% of our hearts, attention, comfort and care. I think their need is like a sponge.
