The First Annual GDRNT "No Frostbite Online Virtual Garage Sale"

Garage Sale Fundraiser

Our fundraising team works very hard to make sure we pay our vet bills on-time and in-full - and that’s no small task because the cost of vet care for the dogs in our program averages about $5,000 each month (though we have had our fair share of $10,000 months too).

It’s still early, but January is already shaping up to be a doosie. One emergency vet visit that cost $3086, along with several new dogs that need expensive heartworm treatment have put our fundraising committee in full gear and they’re looking at any way possible to raise funds to care for these dogs in need.

One tried-and-true fundraising method is the carwash. Unfortunately, that won’t work today because the water would likely freeze before ever hitting the car. Another option is the emergency garage sale.

Please, please, please don’t make our fundraising team hold another garage sale in freezing temperatures! Three volunteers lost fingers to frostbite at the last one*. Only one grainy picture survived the blizzard of ’05:

Garage Sale Fundraiser

So, if you care about Great Danes, and if you care about the people who take care of the dogs that have been tossed aside, thrown away, abandoned – then please donate whatever you might have spent at the garage sale ($5? $10? $20 $3086?!?) to the “Save Our Fingers So We Can Save the Danes Online Virtual Garage Sale”. Many thanks for your help and support from the volunteers on the fundraising committee!

*No actual volunteers were harmed during the making of this post. This tongue-in-cheek fundraising effort is simply meant as a humorous way for us to raise some very seriously needed cash.

Imaginative Picture!

Good going Jamie, really imaginative pic! Sounds like a great idea.

Also thanks for putting a donation link on the forum...it helped me remember!

You know what would be cool

You know what would be cool on the front page? A little scale or graph showing how much money this event has raised. So people can easily see that they need to donate more!

Great Idea

I think this is a great idea - there's is nothing more satisfying than being able to see a goal met. But, I don't think it would work for this particular fundraiser. See, a lot of people will respond to our virtual garage sale by mailing a check and by the time our treasurer receives it and posts it, the virtual garage sale information will be at the bottom of the front page so any charts or graphs will be buried.

I know we'll have other, more long-term fundraising efforts that would do well with a chart or graph and we'll definitely keep your idea in mind. AND we should be getting the thermometers back (those were used on the old discussion board to indicate how close were to paying off a specific dog's veterinary care...and it was especially useful when we had a dog with lots of needs).

Thanks putting on that thinking cap, Lauren!
