SOP (Save Our Posts!)

Newsflash! We have until January 25 to collect any sentimental, educational or otherwise important discussion threads from the old discussion board.

As a reminder, you can access the old board at: www.danerescue.info

Oh no we can't loose everything!

Isn't there some way our old forum posts can be archived to the new website? And how can we save stuff if all the threads are locked?

Saving...

The discussion threads are locked so no more posts can be added to them, but you can still highlight the information you want to keep and copy and paste it into a word document - or into a new thread on this board. There are some examples under "General Dane Barking" and "Dane Health and Nutrition". The copied posts aren't pretty and they'll be hard for people to read...especially people who aren't familiar with all the names from the old board, but it's better than nothin'! ;-)

Space = $$$

I would love for us to be able to keep the old forum in an archive, but that sort of thing costs money - big money - because online space/storage costs big money. There's sooooo much good information contained on our old forums, but there's also a TON of useless stuff (like my obsessive love of certain alt-country musicians, or discussions about whether to paint a bathroom "Tiffany Box Blue" or yellow) and we do not need someone to pay money to store that sort of information. So, imagine our old discussion board as a closet - a really big closet, like the size of a football stadium - and we have some stuff in that closet that we want to keep, but most of the stuff could probably be thrown away. The money spent leasing a storage locker the size of a football stadium could be used for so many other things (like vet bills!).

Don't forget - the people who posted all the fantastic, useful information in the old forum are still here. They - and their knowledge - aren't going away. To me that's so much more important than holding on to 15 pages of a discussion thread about the merits of a $700 purse.

I know change is hard, Ellen, and I know this is freaking a lot of people out, but I promise you it will all be good a few months from now. We'll have more 'bells and whistles' on this board, we'll have more posts and I'm hopeful we'll have more new people to help us make this new forum even better than the old one. In the meantime, just remember that you still have all the same 'old people' and all their support right here at your fingertips.

Thanks for the perspective!

I had no idea what went into saving the old info. Obviously our priorities are with our beautiful creatures!!! Thanks for the explanation.

problems seeing archived site.....

I have been on two different threads talking about archives, which are going to be available until later in January. One has the link with "www" and one does not.
So far neither one is working for me on my Foxfire browser.
Is anyone else having an issue or am I just special that way? ;)

Good Question

I haven't heard of any issues with Firefox, but that doesn't mean they don't exist. Have you had any success viewing it today? Were you a registered user on the old discussion board? Not sure that it'll make a difference, but you never know...
