Hi, we just adopted/rescued a male brindle Great Dane from the Lewisville Animal Shelter and he is such a sweet and loving
big lug. The only issue we have with him is the crate. Once he's in it he is just fine. Not a peep out of him and he
hasn't had an accident or anything. It's getting him IN the crate that is the issue. It takes two of us to physically push
him in it. Can it be the type of crate? I read that some Danes are claustrophobic? We took him directly from the shelter
to the pet spa for a bath when we got him and the guy there owns a Dane. He said he walked right in the crate for
him...it was the metal cage type. Ours is the plastic petmate giant apartment. If he doesn't like that type I can return
it for the other type. What do you think. We've tried leading him in with treats...he's wise to that now and sits down with
a thunk and a "I'm not falling for that again!" look on his face.
Any ideas or help would be appreciated. We are new to the Dane thing but we have lots of love and time to give. I am
a stay at home mom and my kids LOVE him. The first night my kids got on the floor with him and laid all over him and
he loved it.
Also, if any of you know any background on this handsome man I'd appreciate it. They said his name is Sebastian and he's about
4. He was an owner release because "they didn't have space for him". He hasn't been aggressive towards any dogs we've come
in contact with, as a matter of fact...he tried to put his paw on our male and when he growled at him Sebastian sort of cowered behind me.
He doesn't seem meek either...just friendly.
Any info would be greatly appreciated!
We are headed out today to get his rabies required for his tag and I was going to get him a round of everything else too, but what if he's had all his shots recently...can getting another set be harmful?
Thanks!
Kris
