Luna (deaf) has never really known how to let me know she has to go outside. I stay at home, so it's always been easy for me to let her out frequently. Unless she had the runs, she's always gone outside. Since it started snowing here this winter, she started pooping in the same spot in the basement downstairs. I understand because she reallllly hates the cold weather. But it's like it has become habit. She just stands up, and walks down the stairs. I try to chase after her when I realize she has left the room, but often am too late. Now she's doing it all the time, even when it's clear outside and the weather is in the 50's. She just did it again, and I have let her out twice already this morning, it's dry outside and it's not freezing.
How do I teach an old, deaf dog to stop pooping in the house? BTW, she's not pooping anywhere but that same spot in the basement, so she must know it's not okay to do it anywhere else in the house. For some reason, this one spot is okay for her.
