Soooo... I'm here to introduce Merlyn! He will be 8 weeks on Friday. Long story short... I was made aware of a puppy mill in east Texas that had a deaf dane puppy. They were going to put him down UNLESS they could sell him for $250! SO many things wrong with all of that.
This was Friday, Craig and I drove out there Saturday. The place was just awful! I'm still having nightmares!
I informed the breeder that I would not, could not pay for this puppy. I goes against everything that I believe in. That there were plenty of pups out there to be saved that I would not have to "buy". In the end... she gave him to me.
DrB has pronouced him healthy, with the exception of coccidia. The breeder told me they had coccidia out there. Said there was just nothing they could do about it. (RIGHT! Try scooping the poop instead of mowing it!)

I am glad you did NOT pay for him. That is a tactic BAD breeders use to get folks to buy "less then desirable (In their mind)" pups....they know if they say they are going to kill them people will cough up the money. Good for you for putting your foot down. Now if we can just find a way to put her out of business.

I am currently drafting a letter to the AKC, reporting the awful conditions I witnessed out there. Hopefully they will instpect her property. I've contacted the "county" out there as well... Not, getting much response from them *sigh*
The place was just awful, filth and feces and urine and mud. Dogs had tick and scratches and gouges and bloody tails.
It was the hardest thing I've ever done... not going off on that woman! But, I knew whatever I said would have little or no effect on her. And, my main concern was getting the puppy out of there!
As we were leaving, Craig asking me who that woman was, sure wasn't HIS wife! LOL
Now to live through puppyhood! Hey... do they make puppy sleeping pills??? (wink)

Ike is Ike... nothing phases him. Joey...well, I anticipated Joey being delerious at having a puppy in the house. He absolutely ADORED Sampson! Not so much with Merlyn! I'm sure it's just jealousy or, should I say, resource guarding. Hehehe... he is even "guarding" Ike.
I'm sure we'll get past all that. Until then I have to be super watchful. He's not hurt Merlyn but, I'm not taking ANY chances!

OMG Merlyn is the cutest puppy EVER! I agree with Stacey that the bath picture is the best! You are so wonderful to go and get him and give that lady what she deserved. I applaud you for that! This was a "personal rescue". It all happened so fast, there really wasn't time to get anyone else involved. And I knew right away that we wanted to keep him!
Sure wasn't planning on having a puppy though! Wooooweeeeeeeeee! I haven't had more than 3 consecutive hours of sleep since last Friday. I'm getting pretty wonky!
But, he's a total LOVE! Silly and playful and loaded with TEETH!
