Sick Pups

Where to start. I seems that a pup my nephew resuced has contaminatred the herd. Our 13yr tea cup poodle starts to cough when she gets up. Sounds like a smokers hack (she gave up the cigs a few years ago. My sons Dane mix has now came down with a runny nose and was throughing this morning and has also been sneezing. To top it off after giving Maggie a bath her ears have began to swell a little , I have given her Benedryl and we are waithing. Tommorow we are heading to the vet butany help in the meantime would be great.

I'm sorry to hear about your dogs health issues...

...and I'm sure you must be very worried. I came across this article after I did a search with the symptoms you described. 'Doggie flu' seems to match your dogs symptoms except the ear issue.

Good luck, and let us know what the vet says and how thing are going ok?

I have no idea ....

but will certainly be thinking of you and sending prayers for a quick recovery and that you will find out the answers very soon. Praying that all the pups feel better very soon!!

Oh no!

Do you have any info on the pup that might be able to give you an indication as to what it could be? Did they rescue it from a shelter? Does anyone have any background on the pup? You are doing the right thing by taking them in to the vet..... Remember if it gets really bad tonight there is always that 24 ER vet off of I-20 you can take them too... but I will cross my fingers that symptoms do not get worst. Please keep us posted on what the vets says...

up date on the herd

Its seems as though the new fur baby has given three out of the seven tribe members this nasty upper respitory infection. First it was her roommate then came Rhina (my sons dane mix that we fur sit for every day). The hacking cough from the 13 yr old seems to be the same thing. Maggies ears are some sort of allergic reaction to something not sure, nothing a round of roids won't cure. But here's the kicker after we found out that Rhina has this bug and just like day care she has spread it to the rest but the symptoms just have not came up yet. So my thought is call the vet get a round of meds for everyone.....not so fast cowboy we gota see if they have it before we dole those things out. so we are just waiting for the shit storm to hit. To top it off we are leaving out of the country on wednesday so i figure about 30 minutes after our flight leaves there will be pukin poopin and knawing of teeth galore.

tough times....

...all I can say is three sick (with four possibly already infected) is no small potatos! YIKES. From what I read, I am not a vet or even experienced in anyway with doggie illness, I know you will want to monitor them all very carefully and make sure they continue to drink lots of fluids (eating may decrease somewhat but they should still be eating something). Maybe it will all clear up on its own (fingers crossed) otherwise, be prepared to take herd into the vet.....not sure if the herd is vactioning with you or not? If their going figure out now where you can take them at your vacation destination...if they are not, make sure the person who is caring for them knows to monitor them and is prepared to get them vet care if things don't progress well. AHHHHH...what an ordeal! Keep us posted:)

Oh no!

It sounds like a case of kids catching something from a class mate at school or something! How nasty is an upper respitory infection??? Sounds nasty enough! Good thing you know what it is though and that you are treating the ones that have symptoms. Is the person who is watching them while you are gone the type that will take excellent care of them? If so, at least that will buy you some releif -- until you get back.

It's Pierre our son. I think

It's Pierre our son. I think he will do fine. His pup has got it pretty good the meds are kickin in and just begining to help. Funny thing today she was not eating or drinking, my wife went over to check in on her and bring her some chicken and rice she had cooked up for the sick pup she did not hesitate and began to scarf it down. Nutin like home cookin to get you on all fours.

Back in town

Back at home and the emergency room is closed. Everyine that was sick is up and on the mend. Those that were not sick when we left didnot seem to come down with nasty the bug. Rhina my sons pup did have to make a trip to the ER vet in Irving (four paws up for the service) They changed her meds and pushed two bags of fluid not the IV drip just the straight push, she looked funny but started feeling better right away. Any way we are back and pups are good. thanks for all the pup prayers.

Sick Pups

I am glad they are all on the mend!
I just thought of something though.........
Was the new furbaby rescued from Irving Shelter?
If so it was in the news about a Parvo outbreak they are having.
Did you vet say anything about it at all?

fluid push

our cowgirl had to have the same thing one saturday after a 2 day bout of horrific diahrea. she walked (barely) out of the drs office looking like a hippo. she literally oozed fluid if you pushed on her sides.
she slept for about 12 hours and was good as new the next day.

So happy to hear that they're coming out of it!

Wow, that had to be scary, so many coming down with who knows what! we're really relieved to hear things have improved. Please continue to keep us posted!

Ellen, Loyd and of course Jinxie!

glad they're better
