My wonderful neighbor volunteers with a Dachshund rescue and fosters dogs that sometimes are heartworm positive (getting treatment). Never thought anything about it because I thought it was not contagious but he mentioned to me he keeps the heartworm positive dogs isolated from the others inside and takes them outside by themselves. Why is that?....Is HW contagious?
Bailey licks some of them through the fence and they mingle on walks. Bailey gets a heartguard chew each month and is tested once a year. That's all he needs right?
