have you tried canned food... a good quality one ... if you are desperate search magic meatloaf on the board... I think Jana came up with it... we have this problem with Austin . .. .always have since he was a pup... I will mix canned or shredded cheese into his kibble... or a little canned mackrel or boiled chicken.....

Kim,
Furgus looked awesome on that video.

weight..

Last vet visit a couple weeks ago, Furgus only weighed 109lbs. The vet said he'd like to see him be able to gain about 10 to 15lbs.

MAGIC MEATLOAF

I fostered Furgus for a few weeks/months, I can't remember how long. I think he may be one of those danes that are just naturally skinner than most. I know he was very active and always running around. Is he not eating or something? All the dogs at my house, fosters included unless they are on a special diet, get "extras" in their dry kibble. They don't get a lot, but just enough to entice them to eat all the kibble. I have used cooked chick livers, baked chick, green beans(no salt), scrambled eggs, yogurt, cottage cheese, baked sweet potatoes, (NO spices on anything if it can be helped), broiled & fried fish, rice cooked in the broth from boiled chicken. 2 chick breasts will usually last 3 dogs 4 feedings. You just have to cut it up small and then crumble into the kibble. Tinker & Addie loved green beans, they would eat them like it was candy straight out of the can. Tried carrots and bananas but they didn't like them.

I like to get a lot of protein to them and offset it with veggies and yogurt.

I didn't come up with this recipe, but saved it for future use. Not sure who orginially posted it.

"MAGIC MEATLOAF

5 pounds hamburger meat (85% lean--can use sausage-like
meat of any kind that is unspiced, so allergic dogs can have lamb,
turkey etc.) You can also use a 3:2 muscle meat to organ meat
recipe, but the livers, etc. must be ground.

1 lg. box of Total cereal (any complete dry boxed cereal).

1 lg. box oatmeal (rolled quick oats are fine, otherwise cook first).

1 jar of wheat germ

1 cup veg oil

1 cup of unsulfured molasses

12 eggs

2 boxes/8 pkts. envelopes of unflavored gelatin

Garlic powder or pinch of garlic salt.

Mix all dry ingredients in a large bowl. Beat eggs, add in molasses
& oil, & stir into dry. Knead the raw meat into the mixture to distribute it evenly. (Wash hands, etc. after handling raw meat, etc.)

Press into cake pans. Bake at 350 for about 45 minutes.

Can freeze extra & thaw as needed. A classic of vet clinics
& breeders, for increasing appetite & putting on weight.

This meatloaf should be refrigerated, but can be rewarmed or
even carried in a cooler for a show/camping, etc. weekend

It really does work to entice them to eat. Hopefully this will help."
