Anaplasma Information

If anyone knows anything about this disease please let me know. Aki was diagnosed Saturday. I noticed his breathing was very hard and fast, his stomach was hot and tight. My paranoia immediately jumped to bloat or obstruction but Aki showed me that was wrong by then having orangeish brown diarrhea. I also noticed that when he tried to urinate he didnt hike his leg (and Aki is my lanky legged baby that likes to urinate not on the truck tires but on the lights...) and actually hunched a bit as if it hurt. Rushed him to the vet where he made me look like an idiot by getting so excited and hyper you'd never know he wasn't feeling well. However, when I told Dr. Newton what had happened at home he asked if we would okay a complete run through. Bloodwork, fecal samples, urine samples, heartworm test, parvo test, and even x-rays after Aki decided to 'turkey leg' ( thats my own term for it) in front of him. The room they took him to was next door. You should have heard the commotion. Apparently a feline patient had managed to get loose in there. Fortunately Aki is used to cats but it was still funny to see the door open and Aki come trotting in with his leash trailing while the vet assistant who'd taken him in there was on the floor laughing. Anyway, the 4-in-1 heartworm test revealed that my pup is positive for Anaplasma. In his lifetime (granted thats only a little over 2 years) he's had 3 tics on him and only 1 had actually bitten him and was in him. Apparently thats all it took. Now he's on a 5 week treatment of Doxycycline. Dr. Newton did attempt to explain what Anaplasma is and what it does but all I ended up really hearing was the part about keeping a close eye on him to make sure he doesn't bleed out. So, if anyone knows a good site about it or knows about it please let me know. Thanks.
