Addison's Disease

I just got the diagnosis today that Arwen (formerly Tasha) has Addison's Disease. Is there any other owners or fosters that have a Dane with Addison's or are familiar with it?

Just did a google search and came up with the same disease for humans.....then added dogs to the search and found this website. Haven't read any of it yet but saw that you were still here and wanted to post it for you ASAP. Hope it helps and that there is a quick treatment for this disease. Prayers for your Arwen...keep us posted

Thanks for your prayers.

Thanks for your prayers. There is treatment available, it's just complicated and (of course when it's a Dane) costly. She'll have to get monthly injections for the rest of her life. Apparently it is very very rare, but of the dogs that have it, Great Danes are the most common.

Addison's

I used to have a dog with mega esophagus and as a result, was on a support group message board. While my dog did not have Addison's, most other dogs with mega-e did have it. Mega -e is not curable & is fatal but from what I remember, Addison's is different and is something that you can manage throughout the dogs life. Maybe Cassie might jump in on this one too.

Sending prayers your way....

Addisons disease

I don't know if Lea ever hops on here, but she had a dane with Addison's.
While the injections are expensive, most dogs stay well managed on them. There are other treatment methods that are less expensive, but involve more frequent medication and are not as effective.

Thanks for the info Cassie.

Thanks for the info Cassie. If you talk to Lea please let her know that I would love any pointers that she may have. Everything seems to be getting better, except that Arwen has apparently been sick for a very long time since on the medications she is more hyper than I've ever seen her since she was a puppy. I'm having a little difficulty dealing with the super energy that she has now.
