What a surprise!

Jinxie has been very disturbed about something under our deck!

Then to our surprise we found out who THEY were!!! We now are working with Kathy's Kitties to capture all four kittens and Momma, spay them and have them adopted!

We just put the trap out with the lid tied up so Momma would be comfortable going inside. It took all of 10 minutes before she went in and feasted on sardines. Now we will put kittie chow and water inside for the next several days before we attempt our final catch. The trap dose not have any springs in it so we won't have to worry about harming any of them.

Meanwhile...Jinxie is going nut!

Can you believe Momma felt safe having her kitties under our deck in Jinxie's yard????

The babies

The babies are at Kathy's Kitties feral cat rescue. They can be adopted without any problem and will receive all their vaccinations. There were five beauties!

I really wanted Momma to be adopted too, but Kathy said that unfortunately she was too wild to tame. I've been out of town a few days and sadly Loyd said she hasn't been around.

If she and Jinx would become friends I have no doubt that I could tame her...we connected! I sure hope she returns!

so let me get this right...

momma is caught (with babies) - how many finally?
she is spayed, set free somewhere else, shows back up at your house...
sounds like she's yours!
we did that when i was young - took the momma way out to the country, dropped her off at a ranch with a barn where she could hunt rats and mice and three days later she was back at our house!
so, i can't figure out where the babies are now?

She's back!

Well after all that...Momma, I named her Sienna, was spayed and released near the ranch where her feral colony lives. By the way, the rancher feeds them but doesn't care about their welfare or safety or the constant potential of new kitties!

So last night we let out Jinx and she ran straight for the corner of the deck where they all had been. Next we hear loud hissing! Oh boy, she's back!

We are being careful not to feed Sienna, but I must admit, if she and Jinx decided to get along I'd be really happy to have her around!! We'll just have to wait and see!

That is so cool!

I don't know Ellen.... Sounds like a keeper to me! I mean to say, if Jinx is already looking for her friend AND on top of it you have given her a name, you may find yourself with a feline companion. :-)
You are much stronger than I am..... If I see any animal, I try to give them food right away... I know your situation is different of course.

Here's the problem

Once you have named an animal it becomes yours! hahahahaha But you have a lovely cat and a beautiful name. I think Sienna has found her forever home. I also believe the Jinx and Sienna will eventually get along...it just takes some time...congratulations on your new kitty....I love her!

Naming her makes her yours:)

I agree Judy!! She is gorgeous!
Best wishes and I hope and pray that Jinxie will adopt her too:)

Too funny!

Okay you guys, I guess I'm hooked! I sure hope Jinxie and Sienna fall in love with each other. I don't think she's been around today, and I have to admit it makes me a bit sad.

It's really up to Jinxie and Sienna...I hope she stays and we all live happily ever after!!!

A happy ending!

Yes, it's so cute to find them...at least yours were all neatly in a box! You were so lucky! Honestly, I was worried about snakes too!

We finished the hunt last night after I spent 2 hours lying in wait on my side at the edge of the deck until I finally was able to lure the last 3 kittens out from under the deck.

I grabbed the first one and placed the cutie in a carrier. Then I used the first one to lure out the others as I caught them one by one. Whew, we are so relieved that they are all together and safe and sound!!

A happy ending!!

Good Job Ellen

I am so glad you were able to capture everyone safely...those kitties are just so doggone cute...and I know it was a lot of work for you but it was well worth it. Hopefully the rescue will let you know how everybody does...Judy, Scooby, and Daphne

Thanks Judy!

The rescue is Kathy's Kitties, and Kathy is terrific. She originally said the Momma would be spayed and release back where she came from. Fortunately she decided to keep Momma with the kittens for a while and then if she isn't too wild attempt to tame her and find her a home. She deserves it and I'm really impressed with all Kathy does and the way she does it.

I must admit, it's a really good feeling to have them all together and safe!

Similar Experience

Many many years ago while living down in Panama, we had a similar experience. One evening as i got ready to leave for work, the dog and i were carrying out the trash, and across the garage door slithered a snake. Dropped the trash grabbed the dog and got back into the house. Called our neighbors to tell them, and then went snake hunting. (about two weeks earlier we lost our first dog to a snake bite in the back yard) While hunting, i hear this clang clang clang going on next door. Neighbor found the snake with a shovel. So back to my leaving for work..... Went back into the garage to get in the car, when the dog starts going crazy over some boxes we have stacked up against the wall.

Where there is one snake there's likely to be another??????

Couldn't leave thinking that we might have a nest of snakes out there. So one by one i start peeling boxes back, looking inside. After about 5 boxes...... i raise the flaps of the 6th.... and four faces look up at me!!!!! Must have jumped three foot vertically and about 10 feet back. When my heart settled back from my throat, i said to my self, "Self, those faces didn't look like snake faces, did they?" Couldn't exactly remember, so i go for another look. I raise the flaps of that 6th box again, and again there are four faces looking up at me, but they are the faces of a Calico mama cat (just like yours) and three kittens. Whom Lynn named Missy, eeny, miney, and moe, didn't figure naming a kitten meeney was a good thing.

Our Hunting update!

Today we have safely captured Momma and her most precocious kittie!! Now we only have 4 to go, ugh! We're really hoping the rest get really hunger and emerge out from under the deck tonight! We have a very safe trap...no springs, so they can't get hurt!

Wish us luck...Jinxie is really going nuts now that we have Momma and kittie as guests in our guest room!!!

There soooooo cute!!

FABULOUS!

What a fabulous thing you are doing Ellen...even thought Momma might not think so right now, later on she and her babies will thank you! Momma is beautiful...

Judy, Scooby, and Daphne

Thanks!

Thanks Judy! I'm pretty sure Momma isn't too happy right now, but she's staying very calm. They are all so precious I hope all will go well in catching the rest of them! Please keep your fingers crossed for us all!

Oh my!

You just can't believe the chaos this is causing! They are so absolutely adorable I can't take my eyes off of them and Jinxie can't either and is going totally nuts. She's obsessed!!

It was bad enough when she could only smell them. But the food in the trap is working and Mamma and babies are rolling around the deck and Jinxie can see them from inside!!! I give them a 3 minute warning before we go outside so they can scoot under the deck, but I can't seem to get Jinx to settle down so she can pee!!! I've walked her so many times tonight I'm exhausted!!

I thought there were 4, but tonight one appeared with a totally black face on a white body...oh so cute! I hadn't seen him before, so now there are five!!!!

I love cats and wish I could keep these cuties like you've managed to Judy, but no such luck! I'll just try to enjoy them for the next couple of days hopefully without going nuts too!!!

I know when all is said and done that they'll live happily every after in great homes...I just have to get through the next couple of days!!!

What loves

I love calico's and Momma is gorgeous and so are the babies... I have ferrel cats that live in my garage in the evening (go figure that one out) so I can totally relate...you are so kind to do this and the kitties will thank you..

Judy, Scooby, and Daphne

Kitties!!

Oh my gosh! They are so cute! I am SUCH a sucker for kittens. I just want to cuddle them and play with them and watch them jump and hop and look all clumsy and cute and precious and adorable... Ok, I'll stop. I need to find something else to look at. I swear one day I'll be the crazy cat lady with a house full of cats... and Danes. Oh gosh, I can see it now. Kittens!!!!!

They are ADORABLE!!! Yes, I'm also surprised she picked your yard with Jinxie!

Wow

I am not a cat person, but they are REALLY cute. Even the momma. Can't believe this is the yard she picked though! At least now you know what was driving Jinxie nutso!
