My husband and I are thinking about adopting a new dog. We have two kids (7 &5) and one 9 year old blue heeler we rescued when she was 7 months old. The kids have been wanting to play with the dog, but the heeler just ignores them, Unless she comes to "tattle on them". Then naturally came the request for a new dog.
Right now, the Great Dane is currently my choice. I have only come across one Dane in my life and he was an absolute sweet heart. He let strangers (adult and small children alike) love all over him. He was very devoted to his momma, too. Which is a characteristic I like, my healer has the same qualities. I've read through a bit of the forum and laughed out loud at some things, and got a good deal of information about them. I would really like to hear from some who have already adopted a Dane and raised them.
We had no idea what we where getting into when we adopted the blue heeler (temperament, training needed, medical problems, and quirks). We worked through a lot of issues and love her all the more for them, but I want to make a good choice and to know what I'm getting into. I want to make sure that I am choosing the right breed for my family.
