The new crate..

Oh my goodness. I finally broke down and bought the 54" crate. Even got it on clearance at Petsmart. Why I couldn't envision how HUGE this thing is in my mind, I don't know, but oh my....if he outgrows this thing, I may have to start thinking of adding on to the house.

I havent had much luck with

I havent had much luck with finding the 54 inch crate at petsmart or anywhere else.

Anyone know of a website or store in houston that sells the 54 inch? I need 3.....

Sigh...

I went home at lunch to check on him...he escaped. Sigh. I followed his path of destruction to my bed where he lay sleeping. He's been exhiled to the back yard until I figure out how to keep him in that thing later. :(

A little pricy, but . . .

This is where we ordered Charlie's crate.
http://www.petcratesdirect.com/dog-crates-giant-breed.html. Of course we needed it "yesterday" and there wasn't one to be had in this town. It has held up really well (1 year in September). We used plastic fasteners where the top, sides and bottom join just to make sure he couldn't escape. Luckily we only needed one.

Reinforcement for crate

We used heavy duty zip fastners to reinforce the crate. We got them at Home Depot in the electrical department (where the wiring and cables are). Charlie has been bored enough to shred all of his bedding, but hasn't found a way out yet.

petsmart

i went to petsmart and they called the stores to see which one had it - that was in dallas, but i'm sure they're the same all over - call one and ask them to find them for you.

I got mine

In Plano at Canine Commissary. I do not know if they are in Houston or if they could deliver one. It is as big as my son's twin bed. There have been nights when I find 2 or 3 teenage boys asleep in it. On those nights Gandalf is in our room, safe.

do you have a Pet Supplies Plus near you?

The one near me takes requests for products which can be a one time purchase or a product you'd like the see the store always have in stock.

i saw that site earlier this week too

But I wasnt sure if I was willing to wait 4 days to get it...

I called a few feed stores around houston and one gave me a number to a manufacturer, but it was disconnected. Hopefully I can find one before the end of the month.

I got this one for Guinness

I got this one for Guinness and it didn't take very long to come in. It's a little more expensive than the regular drop pin type, but it folds up all in one piece (I hate having to deal with the separate sides and pieces and putting it back together when I have to move the other crates) and it has a metal pan on the bottom instead of plastic. It also has two doors, one on the front and one on the side so it can fit pretty much anywhere I want to put it.

Zip ties..

I let the dogs stay outside this morning since the weather was nice, but they're back in crates this afternoon. I put zip ties on the door to Popper's crate, one next to each latch. If he still manages to get that door open, I just don't know what to do.

I think I'm ready to know what it's like to have a nice, calm adult Dane. :)

The two little dogs have always been crated, but Popper outgrew the other crate we have long ago..and long story short..until 3 weeks ago there used to be someone there all day with them, so crating became unnecessary. Now it's necessary.

Oh Poppers...

...what mischeif! You must be frustrated. Although it seems like what from what other people have suggested the crate you purchased can be modified to accommodate your puppy Houdini. You need puppy cam:)
