Looking for a Dane

My family and I have been looking for a Dane for 8 months now and have had no luck. We have been working with GDRNT for the last two months and have had only one potential match. We are looking for an adult Dane and are not willing to adopt or buy a puppy. I was wondering if anyone can recommend any place else we should look. While we continue to hope that GDRNT can help us find our forever companion we are sure that there is a dog out there that we could love if only we could find him/her.

Well worth the wait!

Hello Margaret,
I must tell you that when I make up my mind to do something, waiting is not an option!

Jinxie was my very first Dane adoption of my 6 Danes over 33 years! This has been a very meaningful and successful experience for my husband and me...we will only adopt from now on and only from GDRNT, but hopefully the next adoption is a long way off!

When you get to the stage when you go see your Dane finalists, the right one literally picks you! I have the most loving, healthiest Dane I've ever had. I never had a crate trained dog before and it's a total joy. She loves her crate, it's her safe place, and I always know that she is totally safe and so is everything else...ha.

It's been two years since we adopted. As you can probably see, I'm on the forum regularly! Everyone here is focused on healing, happiness, love and success, not just placement, but a "Forever home"!

I believe I have made lasting friends here, even from afar because I live out of the area, and they are always there for us, for fun or when ever we need them for Jinxie's well being!

Although you're anxious to get your Dane and I understand completely, you will see that this is the best way to get "Your Dane".

I'm excited for you! Lots of good luck and happiness! In hindsight you'll be soooo glad you waited!

Waiting does suck

I know waiting sucks. I am a person that needs instant gratification and I wait for NOTHING. My patience does not know what waiting means. I know how hard it is for you to keep on seeing all the happy success stories! It is just the best reward that you can ever ask for when you meet your match the first time and bring him/her home. I wish you luck in the waiting process but I also know that we are getting alot more in right now that are going through the screening process. Hang in there!!

It takes time...

Margret

OUr team has a great track record of making forever matches..... while there is never any gaurntee GDR does try to assure that your match is going to be a happy one for your situation.... I know it is hard to wait but you have made a very responsible and caring decision to adopt and save a dane....the right fur kid is out there we just need to get you guys hooked up....

so THank you for deciding to adopt

Thanks for the advice. We

Thanks for the advice. We are willing to wait a little longer but reading the stories here about how happy people are with their dogs just makes us that much more anxious. We are looking forward to meeting any future dogs you might think are appropriate. I cannot stress enough that it is important to us to get the right dog and we appreciate your efforts in screening the dogs for us and your knowledge of the breed.
Thanks again!
Margaret

Hang in there!

I know it's tough to wait, especially since you probably put a lot of thought into it prior to even contacting us! Rest assured, the wait is worth it and the matchmaking process DOES work. While it stinks for you, a low number of Danes in rescue is a good thing! Of course, I think we just got 3 or 4 more in, so it's on the rise again. We have a very low return rate compared to other groups and I think it's because we DO evaluate them extensively...not only in their foster home, but also in specially trained evaluators home prior to even going to foster homes.

When you adopt from a shelter or purchase from an individual, you really don't know what you are getting. For example, you might adopt a perfectly behaved Dane from an individual or shelter that appears healthy. You take it home, it gets along with your family and you feel like you struck gold. Dog is well-behaved, so you don't crate it and all is well. One day you come home and your house is destroyed with blood everywhere. Turns out the dog has severe thunderstorm anxiety. Not only is your house torn apart (including both doors ruined by clawing and chewing), but the dog is stressed, bleeding, and very upset, but now you have a dog that can't be left alone during thunderstorms. I know, because I went through this scenerio with a foster dog many years ago (my fault for not crating my foster...lesson learned the hard way). Turns out, it was so bad she was almost unadoptable, so I ended up adopting her. My life turned into watching the weather, running home to dope her, having a network of people to help me if I couldn't get home in time, and then having a dog that was drugged for the next 24 hours until the medicine was out of her system. This is a severe case, but again, why the evaluation and fostering is so important prior to adoption. You WILL know what you are getting and that it's a GREAT match for your home! :-)

Again, hang in there....we just want to make sure the next member of your family is perfect for you. After the adoption you will forget about how tough it was to wait! :-) Thank you SOOOO much for adopting and being patient...we look forward to when you post that you got your new baby!

Margret, we just got some

Margret, we just got some in some new dogs and I am hoping one of them pan out for you and your family. If you would like to look else where, there is Dane Angel. But they are much smaller then we are so if GDRNT does not have a Dane for you, I dont know for sure that dane Angel will either. I know you have been waiting a long time. We are very low on numbers rightn ow which is rare. If you do decide to look else where, please let me know so I can move onto other adopters. I completely understand you being anxious etc. I am pretty sure that Lea or I will facilitate your next meeting so we hopefully can anwser some more of your questions before. :
