Kennel pads for Danes? 3rd one met a terrible yesterday.

I'd like to find a kennel pad that my almost 1 yr old will not tear up? Is there sucha a thing? I had just bought a fairly heavy duty one, canvas lined... and it lasted about 1 night.

It was green and when i put it in there he tried to dig his way out of the kennel. I really dont know what he was thinking but I can assume he must of thought it was some sort of yard. I thought dogs were color blind, but I've had other pads in there that he chewed to death but I've never seen my poor Wyatt try to dig his way out of his kennel... =\

He's only kennelled while I'm away at work, when if leave for a shorter time frame he's good enough to leave out with Tessa now.

I would love to hear any suggestions or what others have done for thier Danes to make kennel life easier on thier elbows.

thanks!

Thanks ! Problem Solved!!

I hit a garage sell a few weeks ago and picked up about 4 afghans (sp?). I thought for sure they were going to be shredded, but he LOVES them. I put about 3 of them in there and he arranges them how he sees fit.

Stop them from shredding their beds.

Ahtena and Sampson are both just over a year old now, and we had the same problem. They went through a phase at about 8 months old where they would shred whatever we put in their crates. There was a post on the old board about it, and I can't remember who gave me the advice, but it worked extremely well. This will sound a little harsh, but it works, and the person that gave me the advice uses it on her fosters. If they start shredding their bedding, take everything out, only leave the bare crate floor. I made her sleep on that one night. After that just put a couple of towels in the crate, and if they don't shred that after a couple of days, put in a blanket, and if that survives for a couple days, put in a comforter, and if that survives, then a dog bed. If at any of the points, they shred the bedding, take everything out and start back over at bare crate. I know it sounds mean, but Athena caught on after the second round. It only took her a couple of weeks to figure out that beds are more comfortable than any thing else, and now she has a nice dog bed that is not shredded. Good luck, and hopefully whoever gave me the advice a while ago will see this and expand on what they told me.

kennel pad

We do the garage sale thing also. We buy old cushions and then use the foam inside of denim covers that Angie makes (or her mother for her grandogs) They seem to hold up pretty well. Plus, when they get dirty we can unzip the cover and throw them in the wash.

Cabelas

I bought a heavy duty type dog bed from Cabelas 2 years ago that my puppy lab at the time was actually not able to destroy... It was the only one that lasted & I kept it in his crate. Water resistent and very hardy.

Garage Sales

I hit garage sales and buy comforters, bath mats, etc for a few bucks each. Some dogs just don't LIKE stuff in their kennel. With fosters, I never knew so I just stocked up at garage sales...hit em at the end of the day and wheel and deal.

Thanks!!

For all the replies! I think there will be an abundance of garages with the nice weather this weekend. :) never know what youre gonna find sometimes.
