heat advisory......

...OK, I think I'll be preaching to the choir here but still think it is worth posting.

I'm new to Dane mothering and I have noticed that atleast with Barnum and Bailey they are EXTREMELY sensitive to the heat. When they first came home about a month ago, I made a 'no zoomies in the house' rule. Well, that worked well until the the temp started climbing and anything more than a five minute 'buisness trip' into the backyard from 11am-6pm is too much. Now, zoomies are allowed inside:) Maybe this is just a Barnum and Bailey thing?

I think it is important to mention, even if this is not breed thing, all dogs have their limits and should be closely monitored in extreme heat for their 'comfort zone'. My Charlie for example, JR Terrior, LOVES the hot temp and a favorite time for her is sprawled out basking in the sun. She looks like road kill...motionless, stretched, on her back ( quests of our home have commented) but she truly enjoys it. B &B I'm certain would die under the same conditions.

Our neighborhood also places notices...'don't walk you pet during peak high temp hours...you're wearing sneaker but your pet is not...their paws can blister on the trails'.

Indoor Zoomies

I haven't figured out how to stop any of our Danes from getting the zoomies in the house. Poggy routinely comes in from the back yard after she does her business (since she is white her outdoor time is very limited to keep her from getting sunburned -- as if she would willingly stay outdoors any longer than absoutely necessary), and immediately starts running circles in the house. Just imagine a very large white Dane running across the "day-bed," a circle around the family-room (in one set of french doors and out the other), back across the day-bed into our bedroom across the beds and back out to the day-bed to start the circle again. I constantly worry about her slipping on the tile. Of course, Ellie Mae is the "house police" and if anyone gets too rambunctious in the house, she lets them know about it.

I know B&B keep you entertained all the time!!

wait for zoomies in the car

for them to get a case of the zoomies in the suv... I drive a suburban and had all the seats down so Mo could hang out.... well something set her off and she got the zoomies in the back of the truck... I had to pull over... some guy pulled into the parking lot next to me because he was watching her in the back window and the truck was rockin and rollin....

when he realized what was going on we both just about fell out laughing so hard....

the seats in the new suburban (I hate the new one) fold differently so she cann't get the momentum she could in the 99 but she can get the thing rockin when she wants.....

that is really funny...

...OMG I'm not prepared for zoomies in my mini van! My biggest fear is that they will 'eat' the seats or something so we take about 10 different chew tows/chew treats for each of them.

eat the seats

when we lived in DC a friend had two danes (one rescue one a show dog)... he drove a small nice mercedes... the dogs would ride with him...one day he came back to the car and they ate the back seat, the head rest of the front seats and the inside of the door.... I wish I had pics of that!

YIKES

my husband and I will sit when the dogs are zooming...

...all around and we think hummmmm wonder what this is going to look like when they get big? I described it well! It's funny they are off at doggy daycare today and the house is so quiet! I miss them so much:(
