Hi! I'm Harlee's foster mom. Harlee USED to have a bionic leg but she got her hardware off yesterday! Yay!! She's really going full throttle in the backyard now with her foster brother.
Anyway, a few weeks ago i was babysitting my nieces (2.5 and 5.5 years old). I had Harlee out in the living room, and stayed between her and the kiddos. She stayed on her bed, kind of keeping an eye on them, but letting them play and run around. There is a clear tub with some blocks in it that the littlest one loves to play with. She was doing that, and her big sister took something and she started to cry. Harlee jumped up and lunged at her, going for her leg with some teeth. I caught her and corrected her and put her in the other room. (luckily the little one was facing the other way or she might have just passed out!). At the time i blamed it on her crying and Harlee trying to correct the situation and stop the noise. Before that Harlee had met my little cousin (3 yrs old) and been fine.
Today, that same little 3 year old cousin was over. I let her sniff him and his mom and sister. She followed him around, but not with any intent that i could see, i was keeping by her very very closely. He started digging in the blocks and she stuck her head in the bin kind of trying to guard the blocks almost, i had my hand on her collar, and as he was playing she growled and nipped him on the forehead!
So i'm trying to find the constant here, is it toddlers? blocks? me? the house? she doesn't do that with anybody else or anything else that i've noticed. I can take her toys away, stick my hands in her food, do whatever and she is fine. I'm concerned because we often have small children over, and while my other dog is hyper, he's never been aggressive towards any of them in this fashion!
Please please please offer me some advice! She's been perfect in every other way. We are pretty much her eval-situation i guess because we picked her up straight from the vet after her surgery.
thanks!
