Glutton for Punishment

My house seems to have a vortex attached to it through which all strays and needy critters step forth into my life. In addition to all our permanent residents I am fostering a now 4 week old Bengal mix (got him a week ago and I'm not completely sure about the breed) kitten we are calling Miles as everyone involved in his rescue last week has really gone the distance! A teacher heard Miles crying but due to some violent crimes around here lately didnt feel safe to go outside until nearly dawn. Upon confirming there was indeed at least one kitten under her house she got a neighbor out of bed and he crawled under without hesitation. It took an hour to reach and retrieve the kitten and when he was brought out it was a mixture of sadness and victory. Miles had had a sibling that hadnt survived. The teacher didnt know what to do with him so she brought him to the Animal Control building where I happened to have been taking a second interview for a job (please cross all paws and fingers and toes etc.) and was currently educating a family in the parking lot about the catch/neuter/release program. She walked right by into the building and came out again very quickly when told that they had no time or resources for such a young animal and they would therefore euthanize him if she left him there. She was so upset I stopped her and asked her if I could help in any way...and she flipped up the towel she'd had over his head. My response was a simple "Oh..." After a few minutes spent telling his story the family I had been talking with, two soldiers who had walked up during the telling, a retired man looking for his first dog, and myself and Eric began to reach into wallets. Money was pooled and the teacher still cried...she had no time to care for him. The school would not allow her to bring him there so he could be fed on a good schedule. So...I took him. Thanks to the generosity of everyone there Miles is very well supplied even to the point that we will be able to pay for his first shots and neuter surgery when he's old enough. Just when I lose all hope for the human race! And then...there's the puppy. Yes, puppy. A Great Dane mix puppy. Dumped literally at my door with a note saying "We know you'll be good to him" stuck to the door. While I'm glad to be known as someone nice to animals and able to be trusted...I can't help but fume at the fact that they didnt just ask and they could have so easily as they apparently know me! They left him at my door. I wasnt even home. Anything could have happened to him! I couldnt just turn him out though. So...he's with me too. I haven't come up with a nickname for him yet and I'm hesitant to do so because I'm already in love with him and I know without a doubt that if I name him I won't give him up (he keeps laying his head on my lap and sighing as he gives me the patent 'I adore you' look). In the meantime any and all aid, advice, and information to care for this baby would be greatly appreciated. He seems to be about 3-4 mos and 30 pounds and oh so very tall! I'll try to post pics asap but I make no promises...as you can imagine things are a tad hectic! And considering I scheduled Johnny5's surgery (yay for snipping!) just before all this happened I can only imagine its bound to get even moreso. What's worse is the fact that other than being irritated by the irresponsibility of those who dumped the poor pup...I'm thoroughly enjoying taking care of them and all that entails. Including the every 3 hours schedule for Miles' feeding/stimulation and making sure the pup can go potty (he wasnt trained. go figure)! I am a glutton for punishment. I am insane. Should I have myself comitted?? The good news is that my own animals have taken quite well to the invasion. Or maybe theyre just used to this by now?
