Texans are firecracker lovin people..
..and my terrior, Charile, has thunder storm/loud bang anxiety:( We moved from the lightening capital of the world (just out side of Tampa, Fl) to the firecracker capital (Austin, TX). And it is just not a 4th thing to do.....any Longhorn game night, the entire MONTH of July and January and various other times we're not sure what is being celebrated. We've been in what sounds like a war zone for a couple of weeks now...tomorrow will be nuts! So, Charlie is hunkered down in her thunder/cracker 'shelter' ...interior closet with 'sounds of the sea' meditation tape.
My dogs are fine with fireworks,
but when my son was 2, I took him to the fireworks on the 4th. He cried and yelled, clinging to my neck through the entire show. Of course, we got there early and had a spot right up close. When the crying started I headed for the car, but we were so far it took the entire show to get there. Everyone was watching the crazy lady with the yelling child clinging to her neck, running for the car and missed the fireworks. I kept telling him it was fun and look at the pretty lights. It did not work. Thank God, he is now a teenager and loves to go watch fireworks and eat homemade ice cream like a good Texan.
Duke chases and trys to catch them
We live out in the country so the sounds of fireworks has been filling the night air for about a week now. Duke isn't even phased by them. When we set off fireworks I have to make sure he is on a leash because he thinks that they are shooting off toys for him to chase. Crazy dog. Misty was terrified of fireworks so it sort of makes me miss her thinking about it, but on the other hand at least the old lady didn't have to endure another year of them. Don't worry I will keep Duke leashed up this evening as we become firecrackin' Texans! :)

The 'Fraidy "Dane"
Tonks (yes.. named as such because I'm to lazy to say "Tonka") is a 'fraidy "Dane" as well. Although it isn't as bad as Belle (the Cocker). Belle hides under the comforter on my bed or buries her head in Jeff's armpit and shakes the whole time it is going on. Tonks simply crawls under the bed. I just know that one of these days he is going to get stuck under there and I'm going to have to tear the bed apart to get him out. He is just 7 months old and about 70lbs right now.. so he has a lot of growing to do, and I just don't know how much longer he is going to be able to keep burrowing!
They get to spend tonight locked in the house with a loud movie going and me buried under him on the couch.. and probably every night this weekend. I can't even let Belle out to relieve herself without her trying to escape out of the yard, or dig her way through the door. Tonks is almost as bad.
