Miss Bree, three years later

It is three years since I adopted Bree, and it has been an interesting transformation. Things that are out: happy hours; going out on Saturday nights; vacationing out of town; staying in bed late; taking daytrips.... I now visit the vet more often than my own doctor; regularly inspect poop and urine; walk twice a day no matter what; know more about dog diseases than about human ones'; watch weather radar for thunderstorms; sign all sorts of SPCA petitions... Despite all the walk, Bree gained almost 20bs, I am trying real hard to correct that but obviously she believes I have no credibility. Anyway, here are some pictures of Miss Bree that I particularly like. And thanks to Heather, Jamie and all the others that had something to do with her rescue - I am indebted.

All I can say is that...

... the look on her face in that very first photo says it ALL!!!

Thanks GDRNT

Thanks for the compliments on Bree and on my place - if you bring treats you are always welcome.

I would not adopt a dog that is easily adoptabe, it has to be dog with special needs and I indicated that in my application. So I was supposedly matched with 3 dogs, but never told which ones. Instead, at the M&G that Sara mentioned, Heather and Jamie talked about Bree, and I went to the web site and when I saw that she is the longest dog in the program, I knew that I will be adopting her provided that she could climb stairs. So, Heather brought her in, she climbed like a trooper, I signed the documents and the rest is history. Perhaps because she is my first dog, having a deaf dog is normal to me, so I am not sure about dogs that can hear, they require too much special attention if you ask me.

Bree was fostered by Heather (and others but mostly Heather) for more than a year, and she was even unsuccessfully adopted and returned. Lucky me.

People are just so impressed with her, she is very calm (except around cats and horses), very well behaved. I think she is walking advertisiment for GDRNT. However, she is not very interactive with other dogs, so that's one of the reason why she is alone (apart from my own reasons). Hopefully both of us can change soon and we can adopt another dog.

You should be so proud of yourselves, you do wonders with these dogs. It makes me so happy, through Bree to be member of such an organization.

So Proud!

What a wonderful job you've done with Bree! You should be very proud of yourselves, I'll bet Bree is!

so happy

for you and bree to have found each other.
great place you have, looks like bree has found a little "dane heaven".

great to meet you at danefest, enjoyed talking and love how you've bonded with bree.

as to the weight, i know it's hard to resist their sweet faces begging for treats and more food, but it's really tough on their bodies as they get older. we were always very careful with cowgirl when she got older because we knew she was getting arthritic and it was just too much stress on her bones to carry any extra lbs. same with reilly, even tho he wasn't heavy, we slimmed him down about 5 lbs so that there would be less stress on his poorly functioning back legs.

anyway, glad you two found each other and have again provided proof that what we do is all worth while.

So cool

Lubo, you are just as special as Bree. She would be just as lost with out you as you would be without her! I love seeing you and Bree around at our gatherings. I did not know the Bree before, but your Bree now is quite the character. Your place is gorgeous, so I am sure she is living the high life now. I loved your post, I read it to Herbie and he laughed at how true it is!

BREE!

love, love, love your place Lubo! If you ever want to get rid of any furniture, let me know...

Now to the really good stuff...BREE! Oh my gosh, what fantastic pictures! She looks so freakin' good!

For those of you who aren't familiar with Bree's story - she came into rescue from animal control, who found her living behind a strip shopping center. She slept in filthy puddles, gave birth to who-knows-how-many-puppies, and ate out of the dumpster. Now she sleeps on luxury sheets, eats out of Lubo's refrigerator and has a dad who is willing to completely turn his life upside down for her...how cool is that?!?!

This is Bree on her first day in rescue - fighting a raging skin infection. If we had "smell-o-vision" attached to this website, you would all pass out. I promise.

I got to witness...

I believe I was at the M&G in Dallas when Lubo first walked up and fell in love. It was one of those magical mystical connections between him and Miss Bree. Bree was VERY special to Heather and even she knew that Lubo was supposed to be her dad. Lubo is an AMAZING doggie parent (heck, my dogs are lucky to get two walks a month!) and the connection between them is awesome. Lubo, thanks for the pics...we adore you both. And yeah, you place ROCKS. Very hip and Bree looks right at home!

Heather + Bree

Didn't Heather foster Bree for a year - or more? To me, that's a testament to our program. We're not in this for quick turn-around. Sure, we want to find forever homes for these amazing animals as quickly as possible, but the right match is so much more important than just moving the dog on.

I won't say which one, but there's a rescue in Texas that sometimes picks up danes from shelters and I've heard more than one person say that a dane was 'sprung' from a shelter and immediately taken to a Petsmart parking lot to meet a potential adopter. No vetting, no evaluation - nothing. Maybe that works for some people, but I just can't imagine operating like that - and fortunately the Bree + Lubo story makes me that much more confident that we do things the right way 'round here. ;-)

me too me too I second what

me too me too I second what Jaime said, Great place Lubo!
Bree is so pretty and I love her crazy ears. I always like to see the before and after pictures she really looks great now, you should be proud.

oh yeah

i second all of those activities that we don't get to do anymore!! we used to do all of those - now i rush home from work to nap with my babies! no going out of town unless they go and we specifically have to investigate places that we can take them!
wow how life changes!

Bree

I love bree she is such a sweetie! William still calls her Alices twin.
Now about the weight........weren't you the one that asked me for cheese for
Bree at Danefest?
hehehe
Seriously though, as our poor babies start to age they put on the pounds.
Alice seems to put it on in the winter and it slowly comes off in the spring.
