Jewel update

Jewel (or Mia) as we have named her seems to be settling in. She didn't respond to us when we call her by Jewel, so we decided to rename her. We picked her up on Saturday, and we couldn't believe how perfect she seemed. We took her to Petsmart to pick out a few toys, and she was great with other dogs, people and kids. However, on Sunday she seemed to turn into little miss diva. She began barking in my face consistently when I stopped petting her. When my husband would hug or kiss me, she would do the same thing. It scared me a bit at first, as this is our first Great Dane. I tried to think of it as if she were a small dog barking.

After doing a little research and speaking with Kim, we're establishing our rules and making sure she knows them. We are also ignoring her when she begins to bark while we are hugging, and Michael (my husband) has started feeding her and taking her out as well. "She needs to know this is not an all girls club."

Besides the barking for attention, she is the sweetest girl ever! She loves playing and we love taking her on walks. Surprisingly, she stays right beside us on the leash and for the most part ignores barking dogs. She gets lots of attention when we are walking. People stop to say how pretty or sweet she is. And... she's loving it. We love to watch her play. Even if we stop, she'll continue. She is so playful and so much fun to be around! It's only been four days, but we are looking forward to teaching her, playing with her and spending lots of time together!
