So we are riding out, what we hope, is the last snow storm of the winter. We knew that he didn't like thunderstorms, but apparently, our new boy is very sensitive to gentle wind/rain/snow/sleet on the windows. So last night we got our first gentle lesson in Dane fears. He wasn't hysterical, just persistent in letting us know something was not ok. By the way, it is impossible to ignore a head the size of Drake's resting on your stomach at midnight. We ended up moving his bed beside his fur sister and eventually, at about 1:30 am, he finally crashed for good. Poor baby was exhausted this morning. We also had to move his crate because it was by a window and he didn't like staying in it. So we learned that we should avoid placing him by windows during abnormal weather.
He tried -
getting into the closet (which I will be cleaning out and making room for him before severe weather starts)
sitting on and sleeping with his fur sister (would have left him there but he was trying to sit on the sore leg)
sleeping while sitting up with his head on my stomach or in my husband's face
On another note, he received his first bath from us last night. WHAT AN ANGEL!! We did bribe him with a treat to get in the tub. It did take a few more to keep him in the tub, but compared to the heeler... ANGELIC!! I think that was the first time I've bathed a dog and didn't have more than a few drops on me when it was done. The wettest I got was drying him off!! He is a GEM!!
He and Sasha seem to be bonding pretty good. She's still a bit scared of his size. The kids are back from Grandma's .... but it seems to be ok so far.
