I did not post that Alice was having surgery because William said it was bad juju.....
Alice had what I can only call a blood blister on the outside of her left side.
It was 2 inches or so long and stood out from her skin about 3/4 of an inch.
I will post a pic of it when I can find my camera and get the image of it.
It has been growing and it was to the point that when she walked it would rub against her
front leg and bleed. She was also constantly licking it. Well we went to see Dr. B. last week
and he said it was UGLY (meaning prob not good). When he was examining her he
found 3 other ones that were just starting. The other 3 were small and on the inside of her thighs.
Ok so I don't look between my dogs legs often! She still has what we like to call her mood ball on her other side though.
Dr. B. said that one looked fine. I am glad he said it was fine because that one gives her character. Its cute because
when she gets stressed it turns bright red and we look at it constantly when we get new fosters in. It tells us if she
is worried or if she thinks there is something she just doesnt like about the newbies in the house. Like if she is afraid of them etc.
Her other issue was her totally ugly teeth.
Years ago when she came into rescue, you did not sedate older dogs to do things like teeth cleaning etc.
Alice is now around 11 and Dr. B. confirmed her aging.
I had been talking to Lauren about teeth cleaning and she assured me that things were totally
different now than they were 4 yrs ago as far as vet medicine is concerned. So after the visit with Dr. B
we decided to go ahead with the teeth cleaning and having the growths removed. She came through with flying
colors! Alice now had pearly white teeth! No more greyish black teeth. She looks awesome.
Poor girl has staples on the inside of 3 of her legs and she has stitches where the big growth was.
There must have been more of that growth below the surface because it ran left to right and the cut goes
up and down. Last nite was rough on her with moaning. Personally I took a happy pill so I would not have to
hear her. When we got her home she worried us. She would pace and pant real heavy. It reminded me of a dog in labor
that could not settle down. She would not lay down at all. She refused to lay on any of the pallets once she did lay down.
We gradually gave her water and food in small
quantities during the nite. She even made me hand feed her canned dog food. Man she can milk it for all that its worth!
This morning she did not eat, but I think she has something going on with her throat from the surgery or
something. I know she is feeling better because when William got up this morning she jumped up on the box William
made for her and hopped right up on the bed to lay with me. (Of course she layed with her butt in my face as she always does
and she woke me up with the worlds WORST gas at 4:15am)
We are now awaiting the biopsy results so keep your paws crossed.
