Sometimes its baby steps

I am posting this story here because it happened at one of our micro chipping clinics. We were at Mansfield DirtyDawgz and a couple came up just to micro chip their male Dane. He was a BIGGG boy. Well he still has his ummmm package. Shane took one look at him and said "What are they and why does he still have those!?" So there I sit thinking "Oh crap she is going to make this man totally freakin made right from the start." I am sitting there giving Shane the take it easy on the guy be more gentle on him look and she just keeps on going and going.....Then he tells us that he recently bred his female dane with him and she was due any day. Oh lord that was the wrong thing to say to an animal control officer.........lol. Well we all sat there and talked for hours. Euthanasia numbers, how many potential dogs each puppy could sire or birth etc etc. We also talked about all of the backyard breeders and the bad breeding that was being done.
Then we asked him how he was going to be responsible in regards to these puppies. He agreed that he would microchip the whole bunch and he was willing to be responsible for the dogs if they ended up in a shelter in the years that pass. When him & his wife left us that day we all got hugs and we promised to stay in touch.
Well Shane microchipped all of the puppies and then she called me with incredible news....
Daddy is getting neutered and mommy will be spayed as soon as her milk dries up!
I am totally glad that this man was open minded enough to sit there with us and talk that day.
This is a good example of why we preach responsible pet ownership and just what can come out of it!
