Meet Onyx!

Just got Onyx last Friday from Ohio Dr. My sister and friends picked him up for me, and apparently he spent the whole ride trying to get in one friend's lap :-)

He's all black, tiny white bits behind his paws, and right at 101 lbs and still skinny. He's got a massive head and massive tree-trunk paws, but his body and legs are pretty scrawny. When i first brought him home he tried to inhale his food in about 5 seconds. i pulled it back and stuck a toy in it for him to eat around and he finished, then charged my utility room where i store the food! he was definitely a starvin' marvin. it only took about 36 hours for him to stop scarfing all food, and now he gets fed twice a day (over the weekend we were doing 3 small meals to help him ease into having all that food readily available).

Onyx got neutered while at the vet, and had a surgery to fix an eye issue. Swelling has gone down a bunch but it might always look a little funny they told us. He had to wear a cone for the first two days while i tried to keep his paw out of his eye, which made him very insecure and scared. He's since 'woken up' and is rambuctious, and a littly naughty.

He is super loving, and mroe than a little pushy about that :-) The first item on his agenda when we go outside in the morning is not to go potty, but to get momma to love on him for about 5 minutes. he won't settle for less and won't leave my side until he's ready. He's got the best biggest squishy face and lips ever!!

I have a large german shepherd male, that is not a fan of him. There have been 2 pretty big fights that i broke up, all in one day. My dog was not having a good day, which was weird because they'd already "played" for the first time that day really. Kaiser is apparently just a little too insecure with larger dogs, he did fine with my friends chihuahua & 2 poms that came to visit. Onyx however just ignores Kaiser unless he tries to pick a fight. He is more focused on me and my husband. He's learnign about treats, but was not a fan of the last crunchy dog treats i bought. He hasn't had anything happen in the house that's supposed to happen in the yard yet ;-)

We are working on his separation anxiety issues. For the first few days of course he woulnd't leave my side, but now he'll eat in another room, or stay asleep if i get up and move from the office. He's starting to become adventurous in his chew-time so we are keeping an eye on that. (they did say he's roughly 2 years old). He's going in his kennel now with a nudge and not a full body shove which is awesome :-) he even spent 30 minutes in there chilling the other day with the door open!!

overall, this guy is sweet, funny, does fine with my husband as he does with me, has some awesome ears when he's running around, kissable and super loving! i'll be checking out how he does with small dogs, kids etc soon as i get a chance...

PHOTOS - him curled up on the ride home, when he was denied a lap to sit in... and at home, the best i could do, he was running from the camera :-)
