Awwww!!
She is such a pretty girl!! I'm so glad she pulled through and is doing well. She looks great.
Thank heaven!
Prayers answered on this girl! WOW ~ what a scare!! Susan is such a trooper! Thank you Jana for picking her up and taking her as a foster while she heals and recovers. You are the BEST of the best to get this girl in tip top shape!! She's too skinny and I know how you cook for your furbabies!! She's going to fill out nicely very fast!! Can't wait to see her progress along the way

wheeewwww
What a sweet girl... get her well so we can get her forever home!
Addison is doing great
First night was rough for me, but good for her. I didn't sleep much and set my phone alarm for every two hours to check on her. Had to squirt her a couple of times for trying to lick her sutures, of course with the e-collar she can't reach them, but trying to persuade her not to try. She is eating good. Talked to Dr B's office this morning and scheduled her to get the sutures out next Wed.

Jana,
Now you know I have to have a visit if she is going to be in town next Weds!
As for her eating good...........lordy that girl will eat you out of house & home.
The things our foster homes do...
"...set my phone alarm for every two hours to check on her. Had to squirt her a couple of times for trying to lick her sutures..."
This is a great example of the work our foster homes put into these dogs before they go off to their forever homes.
Fostering is a lot of giving...giving your time, giving your energy, giving up your sleep, giving up on your sanity ;-). But I know when Jana and Susan (who was caring for this dane when she had the emergency) see Addison all healed and well and happy in her new home, they'll be given the gift of knowing this dog happy and loved.

That is so funny that you mention that. I scheduled her appt for 1:30 and figured we'd go to petco or petsmart, go to a park and take a walk to kill time till you got home from work so you could see her.
Yeah, she is a healthy eater, which is good since she needs to gain weight.
This is my first experience with the e-collar, neither Addie or Argos had to wear one. Here are the things I have learned so far.
(1) wear long pants at all times cause that thing can scratch you and it hurts
(2) don't make any sudden stops cause you will get an e-collar running into your butt
(3) have plenty of duct tape around (I like the bright colors) cause the e-collar will get hung on EVERYTHING and tear up
(4) you will probably have to paint your walls, door facings, etc (no problem here, cause mine need painting anyway)
(5) for sure put the water bowl outside cause it will get spilled EVERY time they drink
(6) put the food bowl in a corner and stay close while eating cause it will get turned over.

Using your time well...
I gotta admit I'll be a little bit bummed when you go back to work, Jana - I've really enjoyed your posts since you've been home. Just make sure you negotiate "GDRNT discussion board breaks" into the benefits of your next job. ;-)
And the education continues...
(7) Danes are smart enough to tear an e-collar where there ISN'T pink duct tape.
Argos started scooting on his butt, so I took him to the vet for the anal gland thing. Got home, Addison is very very excited and knocking the e-collar on the crate trying to get out. Go to the restroom, then back in the living room and Addison is standing in the crate WITHOUT an e-collar. Holy Crap it tore in half (but not where there was any duct tape, have pic, but don't know how to post.) So get her in the car and back to the vet's for another e-collar. Actually got 2 just in case and they were only $3 each, of course they are a PAIN to put on and had to use duct tape to keep from coming apart(I probably didn't put it together right, but it's working)
(8) always have a backup e-collar in cause YOUR dane is smarter than a 5th grader.

Addison Update
Just got back from Dr B's getting her stitches out. Her weight is up to 95lbs(1/4/08 she was 85lbs), her protein was good, but she is still a little anemic and he wants to check it again in a week. He said she looked good. She is for sure feeling good, she has lots of energy. Guess it was a busy day for all of them cause they are all crashed out asleep.
