Rescue Missions

All,

Just for the record, if you are ever honored with a request from Tammy/Ronda to rescue a dog, you may be wondering what might be needed for the trip to the kill shelter. I have a list of suggestions, as I have done a few of them. If you have another to add to the list, please do so.

1. Pinch collar and leash.
2. Capstar pills, to kill fleas and ticks within a 1/2 hour. You don’t want them in the car for the trip to the vet’s office…..
3. Plastic sheet/tarp/comforter for your vehicle.
4. Enough time to allow the Capstar to work at the kill shelter. Usually 1/2 hour. Make sure the Dane potties too. You don't want to have to clean your car out....
5. Strong stomach. Most of the dogs coming from the kill shelters are COVERED in at least urine if not feces. This is along with the typical shelter smell.
6. Name, address and phone number of GDRNT for the forms at the kill shelter.
7. Some knowledge of what we typically will consider a Dane for rescue. It is not always easy to tell. Find a website or book and read up on the subject.
8. Digital camera if you can afford one. It makes it easier for Tammy if you take a picture or two of the Dane for the website.
9. A "D" number for the vet's office. Tammy or Ronda have them. Have someone at the vet know you are bringing in a Dane. If it is injured, make sure they have time to see it that day. (Gary had to wait a day before he was seen/treated)
10. Know that you may have been told that you are getting a young male but you may get an older female. Shelters are not always correct.
11. Maps of where you need to go, including the vet's office if you don't already know.
12. Phone numbers of whomever asked you to do the rescue, and the kill shelter you are going to, just in case.

If I missed something, please add it to the list.
