Tag...you're it

Has anyone else ever had problems with taggers? We got hit 4 times in 3 days and with summer vacation coming up I can only imagine it's just going to get worse. Would've been more times if it weren't for our pups scaring the punks turdless and me running after them with a camera (I don't recommend this as the police reminded me that most of these kids are gang members and carry weapons...). It's gotten to the point where the police have told me to call immediately and just say "Multiple subject disturbance at -insert address-" anytime I see a group of people after dark. Used to there was just the one patrol unit at night but now between 9-12 there are six. I have to give the cops credit as they are trying very hard to catch these creeps. We're going to buy some security cameras and another pole light and see if that helps. Our garage is almost completely covered and our neighbors 7 foot concrete wall fence is as well. The city is going to repaint them for us but I just have to say....RAR!!!! Anyone have any suggestions?

Graffiti control paint

I am in construction and we paint our JCPenney stores that are in "at risk" areas with Graffiti Control products. It's a little pricey, but graffiti washes off and eventually the taggers give up. Not sure if it would be cheaper then just repainting though. We use it on masonry, where you can't easily remove paint.
The system we use is:
Graffiti Solution System manufactured by American Polymer Corporation, 801-255-9505
and it's commercial applications, but I am sure you could find something on the Internet.

lord

that sucks.... we have not had that problem here.... maybe you should invest in some of those web cams that record in the area.... if nothing else it might make them move on....

We SO need that stuff at my

We SO need that stuff at my work! The clinic is in a not-so-nice part of town and we regularly have to paint over graffiti on the back of our building. It's probably too expensive for a little place like us, but the building owner might like the idea!

Thank you!

The Graffiti Control stuff sounds perfect. I'm just glad they haven't actually touched our house yet. Just the carport area (looks more like a big leanto..) and the neighbor's fence. I feel so bad for them because it's like a 7' high wall and it had (city repainted it for them yay!) graffiti from top to bottom and end to end. I'll talk to our neighbors and see if they'd like the Graffiti Control stuff and we'll just wash it off rather than call the city over and over again. Eric is trying to decide whether to get an "it'll do" type of security camera or a really high-tech "i know it'll work if i can just figure out how.." type of security camera. Since we have the only 2-story house for a ways around we'll just set it on the upper story and have at it. Let's see those little punks try to get away with it now!

YES, and I'm sorry

that you guys are having to deal with this..and I'm sorry those kids haven't found something more constructive to do with their time. I know in the grand scheme of things it could always be worse.. could be violent.
My grandparents live in a historical home that my great grandfather built in the University area here in Austin. They have had to deal with this issue for years and years. Without fail, the taggers always come back to tag on their garage doors after every fresh coat of paint. In my (almost) 27 years I don't believe I have ever seen their garage doors without tagging painted across them for longer than a day or two. It is infuriating. I have confronted a group of these taggers before (maybe not always the best idea), but I thought I might be able to talk with them and might be able to get through to them. <(I remember a guy that used to sit next to me in a high school course would spend his time tagging on notebook paper. I talked with him about it, and was happy to learn that he was getting involved with arts programs to pursue his passion! (if only these kids could put their creative energy into a positive!check out some local art programs?why not, right??). Nope. Don't think my words meant a thing to them.
I have even grabbed police officers and escorted them around back where I knew they were congregating and the taggers just scattered.
It is a shame though. It makes me so upset! Just last week my dad and I saw the latest tagging. One side read " OOooooh! What a prreeeeettyyy door!" . I can't remember what the other one said.AH! Why,why, why, why,WHY? It really drives me crazy. I share your frustration here. I'm glad you are able to purchase security cameras and another light. I hope that helps.
Let us know how it goes. Best wishes to you guys!

Hi Stephanie!! Maybe Chief

Hi Stephanie!!
Maybe Chief could visit your grandparents for a week or so!! :) HA.. I can just see it! :) My family lives in Round Rock... I can bring my two danes.. we'll let the 3 of them "play" out by the prreeettyyy garage door! :)

Rar...

Well, between the cops the dogs (including a stray that seems to have adopted the alley behind us) and me, our carport hasnt been painted again. However, I ran the same kids off from another neighbor's concrete fence. They didn't paint it. They'd taken a sledgehammer to it! I'm helping the neighbor repair it this weekend. Trying not to think too much about it right now though. Off to a Seether concert! Whooooooooo!! Just hope the S.A.D. doesn't ruin it. Bleh.
