Jorge and I are finally taking a vacation to NYC for the first time in 6 years. So far, we got lucky with our stay (less than $200 a night) at the Hotel Belleclaire near Times Square. Because this is Jorge's first time in NY, he left me in charge of the itinerary.
I looked online through different tourist websites, and I really didnt find anything that was laid back and inexpensive, aside from museums and central park. Does anyone have any information regarding festivals or events that are happening between May 13-17th? Also, any suggestions on restaurants or other eateries?
Thanks,
Tayyaba

No idea!
Ha, I know nothing about NYC, but I just love the picture of your Dane...terrific! Wishing you tons of fun on your trip too!
my territory
now you're talking my territory!
i'm from nj and of course have spent lots of time in nyc.
this christmas when we were there we spent some time visiting grand central terminal and bryant park (almost across the street). there's an unbelievable food market in the gc terminal you just have to see. stop at murray's cheese shop, you won't believe it!
of course when we went, there were merchants set up in the park and the skating rink was open so i'm not sure what you'll find now.
we went to some terrific restaurants but i'll have to try and find the names for you. one was mediteranean, specializing in greek seafood, that was in the theatre district.
another was a great upscale italian place right around the corner from bloomingdale's.
i'll do some thinking and get back with you.
nina
thanks!
Those are awesome suggestions! I forgot to mention that we will be in princeton, nj for a day or so as well to visit family...i dont think we will do much there, but eat alot of Pakistani food and catch up on childhood memories. :)
I wish we could take out pups with us to NYC, but i doubt the hotel would allow 3 GDs there...
more info
ok, try this website: gonyc.about.com
there's lots of info there including 10 most popular nyc tourist attractions and landmarks.
here's a couple suggestions from me:
fleet week is 5/21-28, lots of stuff going on associated with that.
visit ground 0. maybe it's just because i'm so connected to the area but i cry every time i get anywhere near it but it's a must see.
here's a couple restaurants we went to in dec.
canaletto 208 e 60th, near bloomingdale's. great for lunch, very quiet, great upscale italian food with terrific service.
kellari taverna
19 w 44th st (between 5th & 6th) - in the theatre dist.
mediteranean food (lots of seafood, leaning toward greek). beautiful place, have an terrific pri fix deal.
fyi, one of the terrific things about nyc is that almost all restaurants have menus in the windows so you can check out the food and prices before you go in.
since you'll be heading up from princeton, not sure how you'll get in to the city, but if you have a chance to take one of the waterway ferry's, it's fun and they will have different lines that will take you either downtown or midtown.
once you get there, there's a free bus that will drop you off at rockerfeller ctr then pick you up at a couple different stops.
here's a link to the ferry: http://www.nywaterway.com/ferry/schedules/
hope you have a great time. let us know how it was.
