Being from New Mexico, i have not lived anywhere with "good" mexican food for 35+ years now. (where do you go to get green chili 8 hours from here?)
That said, an Albuquerque joint has opened up in Lewisville, Weck's, on Main Street across from Lewisville High School. Basically it is a Breakfast and Lunch place that you can have your choice of red or green chili on anything that they serve. Good Hatch, New Mexico red and green chili!
I wish they would expand their menu with more New Mexican dishes, but in talking with the Managers in Lewisville, Weck's is still a family owned business (not a franchise) and the family is adament about keeping the menu as it is. They do stay open for dinner on Friday and Saturday evenings which is a departure from the Albuquerque "way of doing things", and they do offer a very limited number of 'other' choices (like pork chops) that you can get the red or green chili with.
Reminds me, i haven't been there this month! Need to GO!
There is a place in Addison that I have eaten at that has it. I can't remember what the name of it is. I have been living out here in the sticks with crappy mexican food so I have no clue. If you are looking for some good fajitas and hot sauce then my favorite place is La Hacienda. The beef fajitas are the best. Chicken is ok but doesnt' compare to the beef. There is one in Carrollton, Dallas, and Colleyville. http://www.laharanch.com I miss that place so much but I have to really justify driving over an hour for dinner.
Portales is where my Uncle lived. Stan Hardin, chiropractor, for as long as i knew him. Raised his family there, and two of his daughters still there. One even bought his house from the estate and has lived there all her life.
because Joe T Garcia's has not been discussed. It is a Fantastic, undefinable Mexican food place. It has been around so long my parents courted there. Joe Garcia started it and now his grandkids are running it, and they are no spring chickens. It has been in many magazines, Southern Living for one, in the last few years. It is a landmark for native Fort Worthers, and a must if you have not been there.
anyone who has been to JT's knows that the line can be forever.... the last time we were there we couldn't wait so we went to a place (sorry can't remember the name) along the busy road..(across the street and maybe two doors down).. it is less formal (if that is possible) has a great backery and awsome food..... when we were there they didn't have a liquor permit yet ..... and they only take cash but OMG soooooo good
I love Joe T's also! I had forgot about it. The patio area is beautiful! The wait isn't to bad if you go for an early dinner (like 5) or on the weekdays.
Hey Don.....I understand! We lived in El Paso for 20 years & both of our kids grew up on Hatch chilis They were eating roasted chilis on bugers by 4yrs. old! I miss going to Old Mesilla just to have New Mexican food at La Posta.....yummmm. If you want a fantastic homemade deep red enchilada sauce, come on over to my house! Mine is authentic & delicious! Funny I should post this now, Kenny is making chile rellenos for dinner!

Chile rellenos! My favorite. My litmus paper for any new restaurant i try out. And deep red enchilada sauce.... the kind my mom used to make, flat enchiladas with an egg on top! OH MY! She showed me her recipe on a visit back home years ago. One of the actual ingredients was lard. Good eatin' when we weren't so health concerned.
Good thing i have my annual old man physical scheduled Monday. Going for blood work at 8:AM and to Weck's by 9 for huevos rancheros.
