More Wildlife in my yard

We have a family of owls in our yard.... so far we have counted 3 or 4 babies... this is the best picture I have been able to get....

I am not sure what kind of owls they are but tonight one "sang" to Connor ... the parent is a good size with brown and tan and white feathers....

anybody know anything about these guys

unlike the posums on the porch and the squirels in the attic these will be allowed to stay@

We had owls

When we lived in the hills above L.A., they were wonderful! They seldom let us see them, but we always heard them at night! You may loose some sleep over their hooting, but it's such a soothing sound. When they finally let us see them they both had wing spans of about 7 feet!!!

Enjoy!
Ellen, Loyd and of course Jinxie!

Looks like a Great Horned owl

Great Horned Owls are about 20" and although I can't tell the size from the picture his head looks like one. how wonderful!!! I have only ever seen two in the 'wild' once on a nuture walk and once on property we used to have. I have never seen a baby! So jealous and a great picture.

hard to tell

from the pic but the babies were grey puff balls... the baby we saw tonight looked like it was getting some brwon feathers... I have also found some "down" like feathers in the garden under where we believe the nest is.... I am going check on the internet for Great Horned

thanks

my client says..

It looks like an Eastern Screech Owl. They are about 9-10 inches, smallish with yellow eyes. Very cool!
she's really awesome - she would know. she left for greece for a couple weeks but if they're still there, i know she'd love to see them. she lives close to that area so we'll see what;s up when they get back.

great

I would love to have her out... if you want to come too just let me know!!! The adults are bigger than 10 inches email me directly when she wants to come out .. or feel free to give her my email and I will forward on my phone and address....

I tried to get a better pic tonight but it seems that as the babies get older they are harder to find.... I am guessing that they are venturing further from the nest to hunt... I would love to find out how to encourage them to stick around.... none of the web sites talk about it ... at least not that I have found yet!

That would be great

I am in dallas south of LBJ near the Tollway... email me and I will give you specifics!

Owls are wonderful birds of prey...

...and I've always had a love/fascination for them. They will gladly take those squirrels and opossums off your property;) (and any other rodents...watch kitties)

If it is a Great Horn Owl you can get info here including sample of their call/songs http://www.owlpages.com/owls.php?genus=Bubo&species=virginianus

The screech owl looks similar but are much much smaller. http://www.owlpages.com/owls.php?genus=Megascops&species=asio

I'd love to know what you have!

hmmmm

hard to say exactly which one it is.... I found that web site last night but can't be sure what kind of owl it is.... I am going to have to try to get more pics!!!! and they can eat all the rodents they want!

We also have seen red tail and cooper hawks! We are hardly in the country!
