Hello guys! Just wanted to say hi to everyone... We are all over here in England at the moment... freezing our rears off! The temps are in the 40's and 50's but still too chilly for my liking! The kids did well much to my surprise with the time change and only 4 days into our trip they have settled nicely into a routine.
I miss Jack and Sydney like crazy... there are dogs all over the place here and they all make me think of my fury babies. 7 days before we came here, I was walking them in our neighborhood and my neighbors non-neutered 195 lb English Mastiff puppy charged the gate, busted it open and came running towards us. The only reaction (besides a scream that could of been heard miles away) was to let Jack and Sydney go. I thought that it would be worst to try and hold them back since there was no way I could have stopped the Mastiff for the life of me. So I had the attitude of every man for themselves (or should I say dogs and me) and let go of their leashes. Sydney was able to stear clear since she has incredible speed, but my precious Jack was attacked and was doing everything he could to protect himself. I could barelly breathe watching him get bit. After several minutes and the owner coming out to get her dog, I gathered Jack and Sydney and made the attempt to walk home. I then looked down and saw that somehow in the midst of me trying to stop the fight, I too had gotten bitten--3 times! The neighbor has been very apologetic but still has not paid me for the vet ER bill. Since we are abroad, I hope to goodness she pays me when we get back. She seemed very concerned so I assume she will cooperate thankfully. We shall see... Needless to say, John was absolutely livid with them. Even suggested pressing charges, but I am not at that stage as the dog was inside the gate and his strength was what caused the fight. She has since then put a lock on the gate. Oh, and Jack has 2 large puncture wounds.... But after talking to the owner of the Mastiff, I found out that my dear Jack did not do a THING to their dog!!! I was relieved in one way that he was not capable of harming another animal in the worst case scenario (which this pretty much comes close to it) but at the same time I felt bad that he didnt defend himself. Thank goodness he had size and weight on his side because I think that saved his life! So that is the scoop on our end... We fly back a few days before DaneFest so we plan to be their and everyone should know when we arrive as the "policeman" will be barking away as usual.

Scary . . .
Cristina, how scary. I can't imagine what it must have been like to go through that experience. Hope you, Jack and Sydney are okay, both physically and emtionally. Have a great time in England. (I'm so jealous!!)

Oh No
How Scary! I can't wait to see or should I say HEAR Jack making his grand entrance at Dane fest! I had written a long response, but got distracted and I guess I didn't post it. Anyways, I will talk more with you at Dane Fest...alot to catch up on! I hope Jack and You are ok, and no serious or long term harm done. I am glad it wasn't sydney poor thing, I would be scared she might revert back to old ways. Jack is definately large enough to stand his own, just for all that bark and no bite he sure is a love bug! I am going to give him extra loving next time I see him!!!!!!!!!
all bark is right
i saw jack in action. he's afraid to be in the same room with squeeky toys. i thought reilly was wimpy but i guess jack's got him beat.
he does make an impressive entrance tho with all that bluster. if you didn't know better you might actually be frightened.
hope the trip is terrific. see yall next week.
how scary
please be careful!!!!! I am all for being neighborly but we had a similar experience the first incedent I didn't feel the need to report it as I knew they were working to keep the pit in the yard..... the pit attacked austin but he wasn't hurt so I just blew it off.... well the dog killed a small family dog on leash in his own front yard... I think if I had reported maybe we could have had the dog impounded sooner...
but this dog BIT YOU!!!!!! CHARGED YOU!!!!! someone correct me if I am wrong but this is an upprovoked bite.... and this dog should be put on 10 day hold at animal control... if for no other reason it might wake the owner up and get him snipped or at least get some training.... thank goodness you were not seriously hurt!!!!!
Oh Christina!
I am so sorry this has happened to you and your beautiful fur babes!! I must agree with everyone else, this really needs to be reported for your safety and the safety of others in the future.
We're praying you all heal well and send our love! Sure hope you can enjoy your trip! What a terrible, unsettling event. Please take good care!
OMG!!!
How scary!!! So glad everyone is doing okay. I agree that you should report this as it could happen again to you or someone else. I don't know alot about mastiffs, but aren't they gentle like danes. That just sounds weird. Of course it could be he just needs his you know what's cut off.

Vet
Jack got a scope done where they went in to the vet ER to see how deep the punctures really went. One was by his lung so I had to ensure that the lung was safe. ANyhow, he is on antibiotics and the wounds seem to be healing well.
I didn't think the report it to the police, but I might just do that when I return so that it is on file. A good idea. Thanks for the tips... Never been attacked before so this is all new.

Wow
I would have been terrified, I am so sorry you had to go through that. I am glad you didn't have your kiddos with you. Sometimes when dogs get into that kind of "frenzy" they just don't know what they are biting.
I am glad that both you and Jack are okay, but I do agree if not filing a police report, file one with your local Animal Control. They just need to know in case this happens again there is a record for it.
Hopefully she will do the right thing and is just waiting for your to get back to pay the bills.
Whew, that is so scary. I have started to not walk my boys very much because of all the loose dogs we tend to encounter and while they have all been small, it's just scary to be charged and we all know holding onto to 300 pounds of dogs is tough when their is another dog charging up. Our kiddos want to protect their family on the other end of that leash!
Hope you are having a fabulous trip, but sorry it's cold over there!

get checked
make sure that jack is thoroughly checked by your vet.
when reilly was attacked we thought he was fine but the puncture transferred bacteria beneath the skin and caused a terrible infection. he ended up having to have surgery.
make sure you get checked as well and by all means, report the incident to the police. make sure they understand that your dogs were attacked and DID NOT fight back.
these people are nuts if they don't pay you right away. if their insurance co gets involved, they could lose their homeowners.
hope the rest of the vacation is fabulous. can't wait to hear about it at danefest. that's assuming we can hear you over jack's vocals - lol.
Even if the owner is nice
Even if the owner is nice and you don't feel that the dog is vicious, you should still report it to whatever animal control services you have in your area. It's best just in case there is another incident later. Imagine if the dog broke out and attacked a child or killed a smaller dog. It would be better to have this incident on file. Also, the dog bit you and, even though it was in the midst of a fight, it should be on the record.

Are you OK?
Holy Cow....That is absolutely frightening! How are your bite wounds? Did you get checked out as well? So glad Sydney was able to get away!!! Poor Jack....I'm so sorry that he was hurt. You must be worried sick being so far from home. Did you find a sitter to come stay with them? If you need anything...please email me. Prayers sent for all of you....
